Else Super Cereal for Baby, 6+ Months

Why should I give my baby cereal?

Baby cereals are recommended among the first solid foods to be introduced around 6 months, and at the beginning of the transition from liquid diet of breast milk or infant formula to solid complementary foods. Cereals provide some benefits to the growing nutritional need of infants at that age; they are excellent source of energy when exclusively breastfeeding can no longer supply all the nutritional requirements. Whole-food based cereals as Else super cereal are naturally high in fibers.  Inclusion of iron-fortified cereal on a regular basis is an effective way to supply iron at the beginning of complementary feeding, when the infant’s iron stores are depleting. On top of all those, cereals are an excellent choice for transition to solids as they have a mild taste with semi-solid texture and consistency

Can I put the cereal in my baby’s bottle?

Cereals are one of the first complementary foods for babies around 6 months and up. Those nutrient-dense, developmentally appropriate foods are recommended as a part of the transition from a liquid diet based on breast milk or infant formula to a solid diet based on a verity of foods and textures. Therefore, it is not recommended putting infant cereal or other solid foods in an infant’s bottle. This is also a part of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans to feed infants and young children with appropriate foods for their age and development to help prevent choking.

Is this fortified with iron?

Yes. Each serving of 30 g provides 6 mg of iron, which accounts for 55% of recommended daily values for babies aged 6-12 months.

What is Super in your product?

Else Super Cereal is Clean Label Purity Award certified, made with >80% Whole Food Ingredients: buckwheat, almonds and tapioca.

It is based on a unique combination of nutritionally balanced gluten-free carbohydrates, plant-based protein, unsaturated fats, and more than half of iron daily recommended value for babies 6-12 months.

Should I introduce almonds to my baby before I give them this?

You can use Else Super cereal as a way of almonds introduction. Potentially allergenic foods (e.g., peanuts, egg, cow milk products, tree nuts, wheat and soy) should be introduced when other complementary foods are introduced to an infant’s diet. Almond allergenicity is much lower compared to cow’s milk, which is a well-accepted protein source in infant formula. When introducing a new food it is advised to watch how your child reacts. Consult with your HCP regarding any GI, skin, or respiratory reactions following introduction of the new food.

Is this product nutritionally balanced?

Yes. Else™ Toddler contains all macronutrients and >20 essential vitamins and minerals: plant-based protein originating from two plants: buckwheat and almonds (almond butter and almond protein powder) supplemented with some free amino acids, gluten-free carbohydrates, as well as a fat from almond butter and rapeseed oil. Else™ Toddler contains buckwheat flour, almond butter, almond protein powder, tapioca maltodextrin, rapeseed oil, and with vitamins and minerals. The toddler nutritional supplement drink is slightly sweetened with less than 2% of cane sugar.

Buckwheat is a gluten-free plant with grain-like seeds and a source of protein with full amino acid profile (all essential amino acids) and gluten-free carbohydrates. Buckwheat is also a good source of fibers and minerals such as manganese, copper, magnesium, and phosphorus.

Almond butter is a whole food alternative to protein sources, such as cow’s milk whey or casein and processed soy or pea protein. It provides good amounts of vitamins and minerals like biotin, vitamin E, copper, manganese, vitamin B2 (riboflavine), phosphorus, and magnesium. Almonds are a great source of unsaturated fat as well as fiber that may favorably alter the intestinal microbiome.

Tapioca maltodextrin, derived from the root vegetable cassava (think: yuca), is an easy-to-digest form of carbohydrate and is free of taste, smell, and flavor, made using water and all-natural enzymes.

Is it certified organic?

Else™ Toddler is not certified organic however some of its ingredients are organic like organic buckwheat flour (the first and most abundant), and organic rapeseed oil. However, to create balanced nutrition, it is fortified with ingredients such as almond protein powder, amino acids, vitamins and minerals in total of above 5% of formulation while the Canada Certified Organic products must contain >95% organic ingredients. Thus, it is not certified organic.

Can your Else™ Toddler be used as sole source of nutrition?

Please consult with your child’s healthcare provider with regards to using it as a sole source of nutrition as this may only be under medical supervision.

Is Else™ Toddler suitable for infants?

What's the difference between Else Toddler and Else Kids Products?

Else Toddler and Kids are complete nutritional supplements tailored for different age groups, Else Toddler is designed for 12+ months, and the Kids product is designed for 2 years+ and they are both designed to supplement the nutritional needs of those different age groups. Else Kids also offers two different flavors (Vanilla and Chocolate).

Why has Else developed their products with low sugar?

Evidence has shown that early introduction of sweet foods in young children can result in their preference for overly sweet foods as they grow older, and their rejection of bitter and sour foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables1,2. This high sugar, and lack of healthier food diversity, has been shown to lead to higher rates of weight-related conditions and cardiometabolic syndrome later.

This programming of flavor preferences is a complex developmental process that begins to persist between ages 2-4 years and has been shown to be less modifiable after age of 71,2. Therefore, it is critical to ensure that toddlers, and young children, do not consume overly sweet foods at an early age, and are exposed to a variety of foods and flavors (bitter, sour etc.).

Based on this important science, we've developed our products to have a great taste that children will enjoy but with low sugar (6% of DV per serving).
